What is Botox®?
Botox, or Botulinum toxin, is a natural but highly diluted protein which relaxes muscles. As a result of injecting it into the muscle fibres, the treated muscles relax and lines and wrinkles disappear or reduce. In certain treatments, Botox can also block nerves so that excessive sweat production and transpiration can be temporarily halted. The effect of Botox is usually evident after two weeks. The effect is temporary and lasts between three and six months after treatment. The treatment can then be repeated.
What happens during a Botox® treatment?
When you come to Next Cosmetics Clinics for a Botox treatment, you will be treated by an experienced, BIG-registered cosmetic physician. On the day of the appointment, you should arrive at the clinic 15 minutes early. The assistant will welcome you and take a ‘before’ photo. An anaesthetic cream can then also be applied. The physician will then conduct the intake session and assess your situation. This will involve the use of an ultrasound device to decide accurately which zones can be treated with Botox. If another or supplementary treatment might be necessary or give a better result, they will explain this to you. They will then inject the Botox. Very fine needles are used and the procedure is usually painless. A treatment usually takes 15 to 30 minutes. The physician will then offer you advice on what you can and can’t do to achieve an optimum result.
Are there side-effects from Botox?
Botox is a proven medication that has been used for decades. There are no known negative side-effects in the long-term. During the treatment, there may be very slight bleeding but nothing more than a pin-prick. After treatment, the skin may look red or swollen. Bruising is also possible. This usually disappears within a few days. In very exceptional circumstances, an adjoining muscle may be affected by the treatment but this effect usually goes within a few weeks.
What does a Botox treatment cost?
Botox is calculated per zone. The costs per treatment cannot be estimated in advance as this depends on the area to be treated. In each case, we will endeavour to realise a natural result, taking account of your face or body’s natural contours.
